I am so happy. Bernard, my Bernard, is finally back with me! Oh, but of course you can never have a gain without losing something first. I found out that Shannon is dead. We all went to her funeral today. It was so sad. I had Bernard and a woman named Libby by my side, and I had put on a brave face, but I was still upset. It seems that a woman named Ana Lucia from the tail section of the plane accidently shot her when they were being chased by these Others. I know it wasn't her fault, but I could tell that the woman blamed herself. I had just seen Shannon earlier, she was talking with Sayid. I thought it was terrible that she had lost her brother. I told Hurley so, when he was asking why I didn't use the hatch's washer and dryer (I don't like it there, it's just that the environment makes the place to strange for my taste). I also talked to Jack a little while later that day. I was trying to het him to eat more fruit. I believe that Shannon was already dead by then. But that is not what I find so special about today. I remember it so clearly. I was doing laundry when I noticed a small group gathering over by the woods. As I stared at it, I noticed three people coming out of the forest. The first person I noticed was Jin and the woman, Libby. But since Charlie was blocking my view, I didn't notice Bernard until he pushed his was through the crowed. I was crying then, and ran towards him. I just wrapped my arms around him, tears stinging my eyes, and very slowly kissed him. It feels so good to be with him at last. Oh, my Bernard is back with me!

It seems that I have taken the role of clothes washer on this island. Almost everyone comes to me to get their clothes washed, as most people don't want to do it myself. I really don't mind, I like to feel useful, but there are some people who don't help as much as others. I was in the middle of washing clothes today, when Hurley approached me. He started helping me with the clothes, when he asked why I haven't asked him about the hatch. Of course, I have heard rumors about the hatch. I heard it had been discovered a few weeks before Boone died, and that when it was finally opened, there was a man inside. I wasn't really interested in this strange new location on our island, and that is exactly what I told Hurley. He asked me if I wanted to know anything. "Well, whatever it is, it's not going to help get this laundry done, now is it?" I asked him. Hurley got this weird look on his face, and then told me it could. That got me interested. He led me through the jungle, which was not exactly my favorite place to be. He didn't seem to know exactly where it was, but we found it eventually. During his searching, I asked him to prove some of the rumors to prove. As we entered this concrete shelter, I was astounded. I was shocked that someone could live down here for so long. I had no idea even what it was for. Neither did Hurley. As I walked through the hallway, eyes wide at all of the sites inside this hatch, Jack came in and asked if he told anyone else about this hatch. Hurley said he didn't, and that he needed me for help of some kind. All Jack wanted to know was if I would tell anyone. "Honey," I told him. "I don't even know what I would say." He lead me into this storage closet, where all this food lined the shelves. Jack told us to inventory all of it and figure how to make it last. There was so much food! Most of it had a label that read DHARMA on it. But as we searched we found many things, like Ranch dressing, fish crackers, cereal, and even Apollo candy bars! I told Hurley how my husband, Bernard, has a mouth full of sweet-teeth. Hurley asked if he was my husband. I told him that he IS my husband. Hurley stumbled for words and then apologized. I told him it was alright, because I knew my husband was safe. That's when Hurley said something about everyone hating him. I couldn't believe that, Hurley was the only person on this island that everyone loved. But Hurley said that that was going to change. That's when Kate walked in and said that she needed some shampoo for the shower that they found. I showed her where it was, and when she left Hurley gave me a strange look. "It's just one bottle." I said. Hurley frowned and said, "That's where it starts." I could tell something was bothering him. I just didn't know what, yet. When I came into the hatch later that day, I found Hurley doing something very strange. He had a pile of dynamite in the middle of the storage room, and was rigging it to explode. I asked him why he was doing this. "I'm sorry, but I can't let it happen again." he responded simply. I asked him why he was doing this, that he was going to hurt someone. But he believed that he had a plan to blow up all the food without hurting anyone. I said, "Uh-uh. You hauled me off of the beach and you dragged me into this place. The least I can get is an explanation before you blow it up." But Hurley was adament. "You don't get it. This is going to mess it all up." He seemed to be somewhere else when he spoke, a place that was hurting him badly. "Let me tell you something, Rose. We were all fine before we had any potato chips. But now we've got these potato chips and everybody's going to want them. So Steve gets them. Charlie's pissed, but he's not pissed at Steve. He's pissed at me." I understood now. I knew that everyone had a past, and some haunted memory came back up when we discovered all this food. He was reliving something he didn't want to relive. All I could do was comfort him, and find a way to make this all work out. We decided to hand out all of this food. Everyone got to pick something they wanted. I believe that everyone was happy in the end. So now as I sit here by the fire, Apollo bar in my hand, all I can think about is my Bernard. I have a feeling that we shall be together soon.

A lot has happened since I last wrote in this journal. The most important one is Claire's kidnapping. It seems that she was walking in the jungle with Charlie when Ethan Rom, who turns out not to have been on the flight at all, kidnapps the two. Charlie was left behind, strung in a tree. Luckily, Jack and Kate manages to save his life, although Ethan and Claire got away. Another event is the ocean. Someone noticed that the tide was rising, and was soon going to carry all of the wreckage away. We all decided to move up the beach. While I was moving a piece of the wreckage, I ran into Charlie. I said "hello" to him, and when he didn't respond and told him off for being unhelpful. Charlie got all confused and defiant, as if he didn't have to do work because of what happened. He tried to convince me that everything on this island was going terrible. I knew that he was blaming himself for Claire getting taken, and him being left behind. I told him he needed to ask for help. After that, he got up and helped me move the piece of wreckage.

We talked again later that night. He wanted to know if my husband was in the tail section of the plane. I was wondering when it was going to get back to this, as it seemed that every conversation circled around to my husband. He wanted me to know how I knew he was alive. I told him it was just faith, and Charlie was still in denial. It was then Charlie began to break down. He finally admitted that he needed help. But I couldn't help him. He needed help elsewhere. I slowly reached other and gropped his hand, and began a prayer for the both of us: "Heavenly Father, we thank you. We thank you for bringing us together tonight and we ask that you show..."

Last night, Walt's dog Vincent woke up must of the camp as it barked at something in the fuselage. It turns out that they were boars, and they were coming to feast on the dead bodies in the fuselage. Kate and Sayid argued with Jack with what they sould do with the bodies. Jack decided that they should burn them all, while Kate and Sayid disagreed. I would have voiced my opinion that we should have given them all graves, but I didn't feel like talking that much since I learned that Bernard wasn't with this group. The next morning, a fight broke out on the beach. Sawyer and Hurley were arguing over food, and they brought to light the fact that we had eaten all of the food on the plane. Although I was hungry, I didn't worry about it. I knew that there would be food growing somewhere on the island, and that we will be able to survive off of that. Kate, Michael, and Locke decided to go out and hunt boar a short time later. It seems that Locke is a hunter of some sort, and he is very handy with a blade. I watched from afar as they hiked into the jungle. As I stared out into the sea, I could hear some more conversations from other groups. Claire was asking Jack to lead a memorial service, but he declined and said that she should instead. I also overheard the brother and sister, Boone and Shannon, talking about me. I smiled when I overheard that Boone felt someone should talk to me, since my "husband was on the plane." I knew they believed he was dead, but I knew otherwise. I was lost in thought when I noticed Jack approaching. I was playing with Bernard's ring, which was on the necklace around my neck. I told him how Bernard's fingers always swelled when we flew, so he always gave me his wedding ring to wear. I also explained how he was in the back of the plane when we crashed, the only part of the plane we have not found. "You know, doctor, you don't have to keep your promise." I told him. Jack didn't know what I was talking about at first. "The one you made me on the plane to keep me company until my husband got back from the restroom. I'm letting you off the hook." Jack told me I was suffering from Post Traumatic Shock. But weren't we all? After sitting in silence for a few minutes, Jack told me about the memorial service there was going to be for all of the people who didn't make it. He wanted to know if I wanted to say something about my husband. I told him, "Doctor, my husband is not dead." But Jack didn't believe me. He said, "Rose, he was in the tail section of the plane. It broke off in mid-flight. I'm sorry, but everyone who was in the rear of the plane's gone." "They're probably thinking the same thing about us." Later that night, I sat quietly at the memorial service. Although Claire stood awkwardly in front of all of us, she spent time with each and every name that we knew were dead. She didn't read off Bernard's name. I knew that Jack was skeptic, but he was a man of science. And I was a woman of faith. I knew that Bernard was alive. Jack could believe whatever he wanted. I knew the truth.

The next day, I told someone that the mysterious metallic yet animal sounds were familiar. A man asked where I was from, and I told him I was from the Bronx. I saw Jack, a girl named Kate, and a man named Charlie get ready for a hike in the woods. I was going to go over and wish them good luck, but I decided against it. I noticed some tension between a man named Sayid and another man named Sawyer in the camp. They got in a brief fight, but Jack was back and broke it up before it got out of hand. He and the rest of his group looked a little scared. The man named Sayid began to tinker with a radio, while I saw Jack go off and tend to a wounded man. I saw Sayid, Kate, Charlie, a young girl named Shannon, and her brother Boone go off into the jungle a while later. I heard that they were trying to get a signal with the radio Sayid found. But I stayed where I was on the beach. I couldn't stop thinking about my Bernard.

My name is Rose. And I have survived a terrible plane crash. I was on the Oceanic Flight 815 when we left Sydney, Australia heading towards Los Angeles, California. On board, I was talking to a nice doctor, named Jack, while my husband Bernard went to the bathroom at the rear of the train. Jack helped me through some turbulence during the flight, while I told him how Bernard said that, "...planes want to be in the air." That's when the airplane crashed. All I remember was blacking out and waking up with Jack standing over me, pushing against my chest. I knew something terrible had happened. People were running and screaming around me. I knew something was wrong. There was wreckage everywhere. All I could think of was where my Bernard was. He wasn't anywhere around me that I could see, and I was praying that he had somehow gotten into a seat before the crash. I remember fire, and screaming, and a terrible groaning sound. I then heard a giant explosion. And then, everything was silent. It was like everyone stopped. Fire still burned, and I saw Jack walking around the wreckage. I started my search for Bernard. I didn't stop until it was dusk, then I knew he wasn't among us. Yet, I knew he was alive. When night fell, we heard a horrible sound coming from the forest. It was terrible, but still, it was hauntingly beautiful.
